Ellen Nellie Grant
1855-1922
- Born July 4, 1855 at Wish-ton-wish near St. Louis,
Missouri.
Married in the White House on May 21, 1874 to Algernon Sartoris of
England.
Four children: Grant Grenville Edward Sartoris, Algernon Sartoris,
Vivien Scovell and Rosemary Woolston.
She lived in England until her divorce in 1893 when she then moved back
to the United States and lived with her mother, Julia Grant, until Mrs. Grants death
on December 14, 1902.
On July 4, 1912 she married Frank Hatch Jones, first Assistant
Postmaster under President Cleveland, and lived in Chicago. A few years after her marriage
to Jones she suffered a stroke and was an invalid for the rest of her life.
Died in Chicago on August 30, 1922 and is buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery
in Springfield, Illinois near the tomb of Abraham Lincoln.
